Want to know what your friends are typing while they are typing? If that made any sense, now you can. The the all new AIM 6.8 Beta. Test it out and you will see what they are typing.

How does it work?

Real-Time IM directly connects your PC to your buddy’s PC to send
and receive information in real-time. This is also called Direct IM
connection. AIM recommends that you only accept Direct IM connections
from buddies you know.

Once your buddy starts typing, the IM they are typing is highlighted in orange. When the IM is sent, the highlight will disappear, and the IM will appear as normal. To turn off Real-Time IM, uncheck Real-Time IM from the Actions menu, and close the IM window, or simply press Ctrl+R on your keyboard. A notification in the IM window will appear stating that the session has ended.
